San Diego is known for its beautiful beaches, perfect weather, and destination spots worldwide. However, one of the most overlooked aspects of San Diego is its wide variety of beautiful and premium golf courses. The year-round 70-degree weather yields for green, grassy fields and a golf day every day. There are great golf courses in areas such as Eastlake all the way to Oceanside. The baseline for golfing and renting depends on many variables such as day, time, venue, hours, and even skill set. Out of the 80 golf courses in San Diego, below I listed the ones that are the most premium and highest-ranked courses.

Torrey Pines Golf Course: Referred to as ‘golfer’s paradise’, this course is open from sunrise to sunset and offers over 7,607 yards of golfing and a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. This premium golf course includes two 18-hole Championship courses, a full range of golf merchandise, and even private lessons. It is so prestigious and highly ranked that it was even selected to host the 2021 United States Open Championship. Visit this golf course if you want a sneak peek into where professional golfers will be playing in the championship.

Oaks North Golf Course: Home to former and current Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) players, this well-known golf course offers various spreads of challenging 200-yard par-3’s for beginners or professionals to enjoy. The course itself is plagued with oak trees (hence the name), lush greens, and water features. In addition to these features, JC Golf also offers an annual membership to Men and Women’s golf clubs where you can compete in tournaments. If you’re interested in playing a shorter yardage and more challenging game, be sure to visit Oaks North.

Aviara Golf Course: Designed by Arnold Palmer himself, it is ranked the #1 golf resort in Southern California by Conde Nast Traveler, and named the best resort course by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. With 7,007 yards covered in grassy hillsides, water features, and plenty of bunkers. There are also premiere player amenities such as lockers, a fine dining restaurant, lounge area, and a full-service bar. This professional golf facility is your go-to for a premium golfing experience.

Even though golf is beneficial physically and mentally, it can also take a toll on your skin. The long walks or golf cart rides you take from putt to putt are actually direct exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays- even though the top of the golf cart provides some shade. Sporting a hat and sunglasses are the norm but there are more preventative measures you can take to make sure you’re protected. Liberally applying and reapplying sunblock every 2 hours is one of these measures that will make the difference between overexposure to harmful rays and preventative care. It is a quick yet effective task that will give you peace of mind under the sun. Another preventative care measure that I highly recommend taking is investing in sun protection (UPF) clothing. Ranging from UPF of 15 to over 50, this type of clothing reduces the effectiveness of UV transmission just as well as sunblock. There are so many brands of UPF clothing that offer styles for everyday use and different sports- including golf. Like many things, this type of clothing has amazing pros but it also has its cons. Look into what works best for you and make the investment for yourself and your loved ones.

Every golf course in San Diego is sure to be as amazing as the ones mentioned above. If you’re golfing as a hobby, professionally, or barely learning, make sure to check out the ones I mentioned above! After all, they say golf is the greatest sport- so why not enjoy it in the most premium courses that San Diego has to offer?
